A Day in NuArt Sculpture Park Bandung

Five days ago, my friends of Studio229's 16th gen and I visited NuArt Sculpture Park. It is a park and art gallery of I Nyoman Nuarta. He is one of famous Indonesian artists. One of his famous masterpieces is Garuda Wisnu Kencana or GWK statue.

NuArt Sculpture Park is located in Sarijadi, Northern Bandung (West Java) and it was my first time to visit there. We visited there to appreciate I Nyoman Nuarta's artworks and also it was one of Studio229's regeneration events. Fyi, Studio229 is one of UKM (extracurricular) in UPI. The location of the park was difficult to reach because it was located in a remote area that surrounded by housing estate and we had to rent some public transportations (angkot) to get there, but it was not an obstacle for us.

The fresh air of Northern Bandung was greeting us when we arrived at NuArt. The park was very quiet and so many trees there, so we could enjoy the artworks without distractions and also enjoy the fresh air. Amazing!

It is one of Nyoman Nuarta's artworks.

Then, NuArt's guide accompanied us to enter the gallery. I Nyoman Nuarta's artworks are very unique because each of the artworks has a story. Most of the artwork was made of steel, iron, wises, brass, copper and mesh and it has greenish color. The guide said that it was not caused of the paint but it was the result of chemical reaction of the statue's base material. So, longer you put it exposed by the sun, more greenish color would come out from the sculpture (pardon my bad english-_-v). The guide told us not to touch the sculpture because it would make our fingerprint imprint on the surface of the sculpture. One of I Nyoman Nuarta's artwork that most impressed me is a sculpture of cloack and helmet of a soldier without the human figure in it. The guide said that it means a soldier that didn't have a soul and they were only following the order of their boss.

After that, our senior gave us a group assigment to sketch the most interesting artwork and present it in front of other groups. Our group (named 'Sambel Ijo') had chose the sculpture that there was a man and woman with a baby in the middle, named "Aborsi" (abortion).

Unfortunately, I didn't took any photos because we also didn't allowed to take photos in the gallery :( But it didn't matter because I never forget every moment when I visited there hehe. So, I just can take some photos from the internet.
By the way, Anyone should pay a trip to NuArt Sculpture Park! You will never regret it!
